As the Midwife who will be “booking in” Sarah for pregnancy care you are required to attend to the following activities:
- Using the information supplied (and extras from your partner), interview your partner to fill in the antenatal card with the information you would expect to obtain from Sarah and Bill on their first visit to the antenatal clinic
- Identify the appropriate blood tests that will be ordered by a Medical Officer during this visit
- Attend a urinalysis and a urine pregnancy test (the latter is not normally performed by the midwife)
- Attend a set of observations, a weight and height on your partner
- Perform a palpation on the models (you will be given a demonstration first). Write your findings on the antenatal card
- Listen to the fetal heart rate
- Wear the empathy belly to see what its like to be 28 weeks pregnant. You will be allocated some exercises to do while wearing the empathy belly. The belly is not a toy be very careful using it. There are rules and regulations that restrict some people using the belly. You must read the instructions first. Reflect on how you feel when using the empathy belly
- Complete your nursing documentation
