Simulation Laboratory Activities Day 2
Nursing Handover
Mr Jones had a satisfactory night, sleeping for long periods. He experienced one episode of central chest pain on waking this morning at 0615hrs. The pain resolved with oxygen 6L/min via Hudson mask and S/L Anginine 600mcg.
Dr. Harper (cardiologist) has been to review the patient this morning and has given the following orders:
- Organise Coronary Angiogram
- Daily ECG
- Continuous cardiac monitoring
- Toilet privileges
- Commence IV fluids
Lab Activities
It is now 1400 hrs. Mr Jones has had the Angiogram this morning indicating triple vessel disease. He now awaits a Cardio-Thoracic review for possible CABG/LIMA.
You are the Registered Nurse assigned to care for Mr.Jones and you are required to:
- Perform a full cardiovascular assessment (see guidelines)
- Prepare and commence peripheral IV fluids via a macro giving set
- Perform ECG
- Write a nursing report at the end of your shift
- Update Multidisciplinary Careplan (MDCP)
