Simulation Laboratory Activities Day 2

Nursing Handover

Mr Jones had a satisfactory night, sleeping for long periods. He experienced one episode of central chest pain on waking this morning at 0615hrs. The pain resolved with oxygen 6L/min via Hudson mask and S/L Anginine 600mcg.

Dr. Harper (cardiologist) has been to review the patient this morning and has given the following orders:

  • Organise Coronary Angiogram
  • Daily ECG
  • Continuous cardiac monitoring
  • Toilet privileges
  • Commence IV fluids

Lab Activities

It is now 1400 hrs. Mr Jones has had the Angiogram this morning indicating triple vessel disease. He now awaits a Cardio-Thoracic review for possible CABG/LIMA.

You are the Registered Nurse assigned to care for Mr.Jones and you are required to:

  • Perform a full cardiovascular assessment (see guidelines)
  • Prepare and commence peripheral IV fluids via a macro giving set
  • Perform ECG
  • Write a nursing report at the end of your shift
  • Update Multidisciplinary Careplan (MDCP)
